Well-known as Killi’s little brother, Mount Meru is the second highest mountain in Tanzania. Looking like a typical strato-volcano, the ash cone still shows remains of the last volcanic activity from some years ago.
Standing at a height of 4566m, Mount Meru is the fifth highest mountain of Africa and second highest in Tanzania. The ascent passes through different vegetation zones. The dry forest of the lower region spreads its way towards the dense mountain forest, which later turns into an area of scrub vegetation. The vegetation consists of heath and moorland on the top of the mountain, and then ultimately the beautiful baron alpine deserts can be found. The wildlife view changes as the flora changes. During the ascent, you can encounter large animals like elephants and buffalos and some of the leopards.
