Popularly known as the “coca-cola” route, Marangu route is the oldest most acknowledged route on Kilimanjaro. This is the only route, which offers hut accommodation in place of camping. Each Mandara and Kibo huts have 60 bunk beds, and Horombo Hut has 120 bunk beds. All the facilities are available for guests’ comfort including mattresses and pillows. Each hut has common dining halls, washrooms with flushing toilets and running water at the lower huts to long drop toilets and buckets of water at Kibo Hut. The route following Mount Kilimanjaro is from the southeast. Being its gradual slope and direct path, Marangu is said to be the easiest path to summit the mountain also the most crowded one for that reason. However, the short time frame of the route makes the acclimatization reasonably difficult. As compared to other routes, Marangu is less scenic.
Marangu Route is often called the Coca Cola Route or the Tourist Route, and is both the least difficult and the shortest way to reach Uhuru Peak.
