Katavi National Park
Covering approximately 4,471 square kilometres and Located in the west of Tanzania, Katavi National Park is the third largest national park in the country. It offers authentic wildlife viewing opportunity with spectacular views to its visitors.
Isolated, and rarely visited, Katavi is a true wilderness, providing the few intrepid souls who make it there with a thrilling taste of Africa as if it must have been a century ago. Game viewing in this park is plentiful, with large populations of elephant, herds of buffalo, zebra, a wide variety of antelope and giraffe. Plenty of predators can be spotted here, including lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dogs. The park is primarily fed by the Katuma River, which in the rainy season transforms this park into a wetland. It is a place, where you can see huge numbers of hippo crammed into small pools.
The best time to spot the animals is the dry season that is from June to October. Home to over 400 species of birds, Katavi National Park is a great place for birdwatchers. Large flocks of storks like open-billed, spoon bills, saddle bills as well as African fish eagles, lilac breasted rollers, crested barbets, Bateleurs and many more such types of birds make this place a paradise for bird watchers.
