Massai Mara National Park

Located in the south-west of Kenya, Massai Mara National Park delivers one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves. Collectively with the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, it forms Africa’s most diverse, incredible and most spectacular ecosystems and possibly the world’s top safari big game viewing environment.

Regardless of covering only 0.01% of Africa’s total landmass, more than 40% of Africa’s larger mammals can be found here.

Across the vast plains of the Mara region, visitors are able to witness exceptional wildlife such as lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, endangered black rhino, large rafts of hippo and an infinite variety of other species in their natural habitats, which help to make it a photographer’s paradise.

Masai Mara Reserve experiences two dry seasons and two rainy seasons, like other regions of Kenya. The presence or absence of rainfall affects the vegetation and water sources, hence affecting the movement of wild animals. When these resources are scarce, wildlife crosses from the deep interiors to more open areas seeking food.

Wildlife game viewing in the Mara is the best at dry season as there is the greater wildlife visibility with less tracking time needed. The dry season from July to October is considered by most to be the best time of year to visit Masai Mara National Park. In the absence of rain means that the flora is less concentrated, so animals are easier to observe. Additionally, insect levels like mosquitoes are lower during the dry season.
